The calendar says that it is spring. The weather here hasn't really
agreed with that. If the weather ever chooses to cooperate it can fun to
haul the knitting machine outside and knit something simple like a
bunch of dishcloths. Joyce Anderson tells the story of actually taking
the machine into a boat while her hubby was fishing. She says that her
hubby didn't catch a thing with the zzzzz, zzzz of the machine.
He finally took her to the dock, left her off there and went out by
himself. Just keep in mind that it is good to keep working at the
knitting machine so that you don't forget how to do all those techniques
that you learned at the last seminar.
DAISY’S SALE
Thank you to all who were able to participate in the Annual Daisy Sale.
At times the shop was a bit crowded but can you ever have enough knitters to
chat with. I enjoyed having all of you here.
KNIT IN
We once again have several new knitters in our ranks. It is so much fun
to see the excitement in the faces of those who are working on a machine for
the first time.We all know that there can be a bit of frustration as you try
to understand something that you haven’t heard or seen before and then try
to make your hands manipulate the stitches. There are also some of you who
are more seasoned knitters who have a new pattern that you would like to try
but you may just not be comfortable jumping in on your own. That is where
the Knit In comes in. You will have two days in which to bring your machine
here, to the shop, and work on the pattern of your choice. The dates for the
knit in are Tuesday, June 3rd and Wednesday, June 4 th. The times that we
will be knitting are from 9am to 3 pm. I have room for 5 people

to bring their machines if you don’t mind
setting up in my garage. If it is nice out we will throw the door open and
enjoy the weather. If it is rainy we’ll leave the door closed. If it is too
hot, we will move everyone into the shop but you will be in different rooms.
As you have already guessed you will have to call and reserve your spot
because of the limited space. You don’t have to come both days. You can plan
for only one. I will just hang around and help you when you have questions.
I will provide tables or stands for you to put your machines on. Bring a
lunch and something to drink. You can put it in my refigerator. This is your
chance to knit something you may not want to try alone.
MACHINE CLEANING
If you want to keep you machine working with you instead of against you,
it is important to clean it at least once a year. Here is a heads up for
those of you who want to get your machines cleaned. We will be doing a
machine cleaning here in July. The tentative date is Tuesday, July 15, 2008.
More information will be out in the July Newsletter.
HINTS AND TIPS
When you have two pieces of knitting that you are trying to seam
together you often start that bind off by putting both of the pieces, public
side together, onto the needles on the machine. Then you take your yarn and
your latch tool in hand and proceed to bind off around the gate pegs. When
you start to bind off the stitches on the first needle, the yarn that you
are using to latch tool the seam is often not attached to anything. It comes
up from the floor to the mast and down to your hand but it has no lower
tension on it. Once you have finished the bind off, you then must go back
and hide the end of the yarn. Here is a way to make the job a bit easier.
Give it a try. Lets say you have your pieces on needles 10L to 10R. Let's
also say that you want to bind off from right to left. Take your bind off
yarn and ewrap the needles 7R-10R. Now begin your bind off. This technique
puts some tension on the yarn and allows you to just snip off the end when
you are done binding off as the ewrap finishes the end nicely.
